Somewhere between school uniform, old-school athletics and the pages of a ’90s J.Crew catalog, fall is feeling decidedly collegiate.

The references are familiar: rugby shirts and striped tees, straight-leg denim and wide chinos, sweats, gym socks and varsity lettering. But the proportions are looser, the combinations less prescribed. Prep without the polish.

And then there’s the color. Red and navy lead the way, grounded by bottle green, tobacco brown, heather grey and cream. It’s the kind of palette that makes everything work harder together — across brands, across closets, across the season.

What makes this edit especially good is the mix. A Tiny Cottons rugby with Piupiuchick lived-in denim. True Artist’s oversized take on the uniform shirt with an easy chino. A Misha & Puff tee that could have walked straight out of gym class in 1994. Collegien socks, striped knits and logo beanies finishing the story.

It all feels a little familiar, but not overly referential. A little J.Crew catalog circa 1994, reimagined for kids and mixed across the brands we love.

Usually, this is where I’d share what I’m packing for the kids. But after years of beach vacations, their warm weather uniform is pretty well established by now.

Mine? Not so much.

So this year, I thought I’d turn the suitcase around. Instead of another roundup of family vacation essentials, here’s a look at what’s actually making the trip with me—from the carry-on to the jelly flip-flops, plus a few things I'd never dare go without.
